🏥 Environmental Health & Inequalities

Assessment and mapping of environmental health inequalities at neighbourhood (IRIS) scale, using multidisciplinary composite indices.

LGCgE (ULille)CEREA (ENPC)

Environmental health inequalities

The urban environment impacts public health unevenly. These inequalities disproportionately affect the most vulnerable populations. RESILIENCE develops methodologies to assess and map them at neighbourhood scale.

IRIS-based approach

IRIS (Grouped Statistical Information Blocks), France's smallest INSEE administrative unit, facilitates spatial interoperability of environmental and socio-demographic indicators.

  1. Build spatial environmental health indicators
  2. Develop multidisciplinary composite indices
  3. Map inequalities at IRIS neighbourhood scale
  4. Identify territorial hotspots
  5. Create a map-based decision-support tool

Composite indices

Vulnerability index: accumulation of adverse health determinants. Resilience index: accumulation of favourable determinants. Methods: PCA, clustering, expert approaches (weighting, comparison to reference values).

Operational mapping tool

Results integrated in a tool for local authorities and environmental health observatories. Identification of priority neighbourhoods and evaluation of targeted interventions.
